Courtesy Registration

Courtesy Registration allows Health Care Aide applicants who are currently registered in Ontario, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia to register as an HCA in Alberta to practice for a period of three months or less for a reason approved by the CLHA. Fees may be waived in the case of an emergency registration.

How to Apply

  1. Complete registration: Fill out the Courtesy Registration Application Form and email to hcaregistration@clha.com.
  2. Set up CLHA account: Within five business days of submitting, your application will be entered into the CLHA database and you will receive an email from Alinity to set up your account with the CLHA.
  3. Pay application fee: Once your account is set up, you will receive an invoice to pay a $25 application fee.
  4. Submit criminal record check: You are required to submit a criminal record check through Backcheck. By following the link, your criminal record check will be submitted directly to the CLHA.
  5. Submit Verification of Registration: You are required to request a Verification of Registration from your current jurisdiction. This will be sent to the CLHA from your current jurisdiction via email in most cases.
  6. Provide information on the reason for applying for Courtesy Registration.
  7. You may be required to provide proof of English Language Proficiency.
  8. You will receive a $90 final invoice for your permit fee within ten business days of all application requirements being met. You will need to meet all application requirements before you receive a decision letter.

We encourage all applicants to check their requirements through their MyCLHA account regularly. Monitoring your application status is important. Please remember, it is your responsibility to ensure that all necessary documents are submitted to the CLHA.

We are currently experiencing high email volumes. While we will strive to meet our service standard timelines, there may be some unavoidable delays.

Applicants and registrants can expect these standards when interacting with the Registration Department at the CLHA.

  • Emails will be returned within three business days.
  • Applications received with payment will be reviewed within five business days.
  • Completed applications will be processed with a decision letter within ten business days.
  • Invoices for approved applications will be available when the decision letter is issued.
  • A practice permit will be issued immediately upon receipt of the final invoice payment.
