Document Type: Practice Guideline
Effective: February 2, 2026

Overview

This guideline aims to clarify the responsibilities and expectations of an HCA regarding accepting, performing, and reporting on client assignments, including ADLs and adverse events. HCAs should understand these responsibilities and apply them in practice when making safe and ethical decisions within their person-centered care settings. It also seeks to outline an HCA’s responsibilities when accepting and performing an ADL task assignment. HCAs are held responsible for their clients’ care and must collaborate with other health professionals to ensure clients receive safe, competent, and ethical care.
