Apply to Join a CLHA Committee
The College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) is recruiting Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Health Care Aides (HCAs) to serve on committees for the January 2027 to December 2028 term.
Committees established under the Health Professions Act play an important role in regulatory processes related to complaints of unprofessional conduct and continuing competence.
The CLHA is currently recruiting for the following committees:
- Competence Committee: LPNs and HCAs
- Hearing Tribunal/Complaint Review Committee: HCAs only
The CLHA provides orientation and training for all committee members.

Apply for a Committee Position
Applications and resumes will be reviewed by the CLHA Committee Recruitment Team before being presented to Council for consideration.
Competence Committee
The Competence Committee makes recommendations to the CLHA Council about continuing competence requirements and how those requirements are assessed.
We are recruiting both LPNs and HCAs for this committee.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- be registered and in good standing with the CLHA
- have at least two years of experience as a health professional
- demonstrate safe and ethical practice
- have effective verbal and written communication skills
- demonstrate critical thinking and sound professional judgement
- be comfortable using a computer, including accessing and editing documents
Time commitment
The committee meets in person approximately three to four times per year, with additional virtual meetings as needed. During the audit cycle from May to August, committee members complete approximately 10 hours of work from home each month.
Committee members must have access to a personal laptop with Microsoft Office and bring it to in-person committee meetings.
Hearing Tribunal and Complaint Review Committee
Hearing Tribunal members make decisions at disciplinary hearings related to complaints investigated by CLHA. Members may also be asked to participate on a Complaint Review Committee.
We are recruiting HCAs for this committee.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- be registered and in good standing with CLHA
- have at least seven years of practice experience
- have effective verbal and written communication skills
- demonstrate critical thinking and sound professional judgement
Time commitment
Members are contacted as needed to confirm their availability. Hearings may range from half a day to three or more consecutive full days. Hearings and Complaint Review Committee meetings are primarily held virtually through Zoom.
