HCA Registration Renewal Guide
Complete the Process as Soon as Possible
Submitting your renewal early ensures that:
- The CLHA has time to evaluate your renewal form.
- You have time to address any issues and complete your renewal.
If you don’t complete and pay for your renewal by November 30, your registration with the CLHA will be suspended. You will not be able to practice until you complete reinstatement. Reinstatement may include additional steps and fees.
Prepare for Renewal
The following steps will help you prepare for renewal.
- Make sure you have your email address and password to login to MyCLHA. If you forget your password, you will have to complete the password reset process on the login page. If you no longer have access to the email you used before, please contact the CLHA. Click here to view password reset instructions.
- Make sure that your payment information is available. HCAs will need to pay $250 for their permit and approximately $50 to an external professional liability insurance provider. A credit card is required to pay through the online account. If you do not have a credit card, please email finance@clha.com to make alternate arrangements.
- Make sure you get our emails. We will email you as noreply@clha.com. Consider adding us to your contacts and remember to check your junk mail!
- Complete the mandatory module. All HCAs will need to complete the free CLHA module, Protection Patients from Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct, in order to renew. Click here for more information about the module.
If You Are Also Registered as an LPN
If you are registered as both an LPN and an HCA with the CLHA, you will need to complete two renewals. We ask that you complete your LPN renewal first, and then your HCA renewal.
Your LPN insurance will also cover HCA practice. You need to complete separate insurance applications for both your LPN and HCA registration. When completing your HCA application, you will be identified as a dual registrant, and your HCA premium will be $0.
» Login to Your Account
To access your account, go to MyCLHA.com. In order to login, you will need your username, which is your email address, and your password.
You may be asked to verify your information through a two-step verification. If you have to verify this information, you will get a code sent directly to your email.
Complete Renewal on Mobile or Desktop
Renewal can be completed on computer, cell phone, or tablet.
Begin Registration Renewal
Once you are logged in, you will see your home page. There will be a Renew button under the “Complete My Renewal” heading. Clicking this button will launch the Registration Renewal Form.
If You Aren’t Practicing
If you are not planning on working as an HCA in Alberta after November 30, you can choose to cancel your registration. To do this:
- Find the heading that says “Change My Registration for 2026/2027.”
- Click the green button that says “Change.”
- Complete the form. Your registration will be cancelled as of November 30. You will not be able to practice after this date.
You can also let your registration cancel by not renewing. Note that you will continue to receive emails from the CLHA as long as your registration is active. If your registration is cancelled, you will not be able to work as an HCA in Alberta.
» Update Your Profile
The first step of Registration Renewal is to review and update your profile. The steps for the first page are listed below.
- Review your demographic information and update as needed.
- Under the “Good Standing Declaration” heading, let us know if you are registered as a health professional anywhere other than with CLHA.
- Once you have verified that your profile information is correct, read the text under “Profile Update Declaration” and click the box to acknowledge.
- Click the “Page Two” button to continue.
As a regulated professional, you are required to provide up-to-date information to the CLHA. If you changed your name, moved your home address, or made other changes, you need to provide these to us. Renewal is a good opportunity to make sure everything is updated, so read this section carefully.
» Purchase Professional Liability Insurance
HCAs must purchase insurance separate from registration renewal fees. On page two of the My Profile section, you can select your option for obtaining the required insurance. If you are planning on purchasing insurance through Navacord, click Yes to be taken through the Navacord insurance process. When you are finished, a copy of your proof of insurance will be provided directly to the CLHA.
If you have chosen an alternate insurer, please upload a copy of your documents in this section.
Employer Information
Under the Employer Information section, you can update your employment status. If you state that you are employed, you must list at least one employer. Employment and retirement information is collected for the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to support workforce planning and other reporting.
Methods of Care
Under “Methods of Care,” tell us how you most often interact with clients in your primary practice setting. Choose the answer that fits the best.
Education Requirement
HCAs will be required to complete the free CLHA module, Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct, by November 30, 2026.
You can take this module at any time before this date. The requirement includes completing the exam.
» Declarations & Completing the Form
In the final section of the Registration Renewal Form, you will need to review and answer all of the declarations under the “Personal Declaration” heading. Ensure that you answer correctly as providing false information may be considered unprofessional conduct.
Once you have answered all of the questions, review the text under the “Registration Declaration” heading, and click the box at the bottom to acknowledge. Then you’re ready to complete your Registration Renewal Form by clicking the Submit button.
» Payment
You may be able to pay at this time. However, if your renewal form needs to be reviewed by the CLHA, you will need to wait until you receive an email that tells you when you can pay.
It is always good to check your junk mail and to login periodically in case an email might have been missed.
Once your payment is received, your updated permit and tax receipt will be available on your MyCLHA.com account.
