Health Care Aides (HCAs) in Alberta can access free learning modules through their MyCLHA accounts.

These modules, hosted on our Learning Management System (LMS), support HCAs in understanding regulation and key practice topics.

Since regulation came into effect on February 2, 2026, HCA modules have been completed over 55,000 times, supporting safe practice.

HCAs Report That Modules Support Safe Practice

After finishing a learning module, HCAs can complete a survey to share feedback about their experience. Feedback from surveys helps the CLHA understand how our modules impact HCA practice. Your feedback helps us improve our resources and choose topics for future learning.

Since February, over 6,000 surveys have been completed. These surveys have provided valuable feedback on CLHA’s HCA learning modules. HCAs reported:

• CLHA modules are relevant to their practice and have helped them better understand their responsibilities.
• Learning modules supported their learning, strengthened their skills, and provided knowledge that they are likely to apply in practice.

All HCA modules are available online. They are self-directed, meaning that you can start and stop them when you need to. You can go back and re-take the modules if you want to review their content.

Documentation

This module supports HCAs in ensuring their documentation contains the essential elements required for communication and legal purposes.

Medical Terminology

This module will help HCAs recognize and interpret common medical terms. HCAs will learn to apply medical terminology accurately in their documentation and communication.

Understanding HCA Professional Regulation

This module explains the basic rules and laws that HCAs in Alberta must follow as regulated professionals. HCAs will gain an understanding of how regulation impacts their practice.

I have found that taking this course has been an eye-opener and very beneficial to me in understanding my role as an HCA.

How To Access Modules

All modules are accessible through a MyCLHA account. Only specific groups, including general and provisional HCAs, certain applicants, and student members, have access.

1. Visit MyCLHA.com.
2. Login using your CLHA username and password.
3. Once logged in, select the “Learning Modules” link on the lefthand side.
4. Select selfstudy.clha.com.
5. Select “View HCA Courses.”
6. Scroll down to view all modules.
7. To enroll in a module, select the image/link for the module.

More Tips & Tricks for the Learning Management System

• Your “My Courses” page shows all modules you are currently enrolled in.
• When you complete a module, remember to go to the “Certificate” section to view and download your certificate.
• Downloaded certificates are listed on your “Dashboard” page under “Completed Courses”.
