Continuing Competence Program

As regulated health professionals, Health Care Aides (HCAs) are required to demonstrate a commitment to continuing competence by meeting the requirements established in the Standards of Practice for HCAs on Continuing Competence and relevant policies.

The CLHA’s continuing competence program (CCP) improves the delivery of care to clients by having a province-wide program that requires HCAs to complete activities for professional development.

More information about the CCP will be shared once the requirements have been finalized.

Education Requirement Due November 30, 2026:
Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct

HCAs will be required to complete the free module, Protecting Patients from Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct, by November 30, 2026.

You will be able to access this module through your MyCLHA account after February 2, 2026. This module will take approximately two hours to complete, and it will satisfy your first requirement for the CCP for 2026. In the future, HCAs will typically find their own learning opportunities for CCP.

More information on this module, including how to access, will be available once HCAs have access to MyCLHA accounts.
