Interjurisdictional Nursing
Licensure (INL) Applicants

This page describes the process for applicants who are currently registered in another Canadian jurisdiction as an LPN or Registered Practical Nurse (Ontario) who plan to maintain registration in their primary jurisdiction while providing nursing care to Albertans. If this describes you, and you have never been registered with the CLHA before, you will fill out the INL Application.

If this does not describe you, please take the applicant quiz.

Review Application Requirements Before You Apply

As an INL applicant, you will need to prepare the following before you can submit a completed application to the CLHA. See our Declarations and Registration Requirements Policy for more information.

Additional education requirements may be necessary for applicants from Quebec, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunvaut. Please see: exception to labour mobility.

Please note that INL applicants will be required to submit a Verification of Registration from all Canadian Nursing regulatory bodies, however, this requirement may be met after they receive a practice permit with a condition of providing the verification of registration. Once a clear verification of registration has been received and reviewed the condition will be removed from their practice permit.

How to Apply

  1. Create your account on MyCLHA. To submit an application, you must have an account with MyCLHA.
  2. Once logged in, select APPLY under Active to begin the Interjurisdictional Nursing Licensure (INL) application.
  3. Submit the application and pay the $25 application fee.
  4. If your paid application has any missing requirements, the CLHA will contact you within five business days. If you have not yet completed the required modules, you will receive information on how to access them.
  5. You will receive a decision letter and final invoice for your practice permit fee within ten business days of all application requirements being met. You will need to meet all application requirements before you receive a decision letter.

We encourage all applicants to check their requirements through their MyCLHA account regularly. Monitoring your application status is important. Please remember, it is your responsibility to ensure that all necessary documents are submitted to the CLHA.
