Overview
This learning module was developed based on research outlining practicing nurses’ and student nurses’ learning needs related to working with older people. Research shows practicing nurses and student nurses indicated they need further professional development associated with the care of clients related to ageism, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Learning Objectives
- Develop an understanding of levels of ageism and the impact of ageism
- Understand social exclusion and barriers to older people due to social exclusion
- Understand elder abuse, its type, risk factors for abuse, and nursing assessment of abuse
- Develop an understanding of diversity in care
