The CLHA is required to create standards of practice explaining the minimum requirements of LPNs performing restricted activities. This document outlines the minimum standards and expectations an LPN must adhere to when performing restricted activities and advanced practice. These standards provide clarification and direction on the provision of a restricted activity and performing in an area of advanced practice. Additionally, this document includes minimum supervision requirements for LPNs performing those restricted activities, or LPNs supervising other individuals performing restricted activities.
February 2026 – The document was updated to strengthen alignment with legislation and HCA Standards of Practice, including added clarity on legal authorization for restricted activities, supervision expectations, and LPN requirements for adverse event reporting. Performance expectations were introduced for LPNs supervising HCAs and health program students, and drug schedules were moved into Standard 7 to improve usability. Language, headings, and definitions were refined throughout to enhance clarity and consistency.
March 2023 – Revised to include supervision requirements.
